Two layers of Safari ad blocking
- Rule blocking: Safari matches ad rules from EasyList, EasyList China, and supplementary rules.
- AI filtering: an on-device model identifies and removes ad elements missed by the rules. Jev is used for model training during development, not as an online model while you browse.
Plainpage works on Safari web pages, not as a universal ad blocker inside other apps. It does not guarantee removal of every ad.
Frequently asked questions
What is Plainpage?
Plainpage is a free Safari ad blocker for iPhone. It requires iOS 17 or later.
How does Plainpage block ads?
Plainpage installs two Safari extensions: rule blocking lets Safari match ad rules; AI filtering uses an on-device model to identify and remove ad elements missed by the rules.
Does ad detection upload web page content?
No. Ad detection runs on your device. The local model makes no network queries for detection and does not upload web page content. Jev is used for model training during development, not as an online service while you browse.
How do I enable Plainpage?
After installing, enable “Plainpage Blocker” and “Plainpage AI Filter” in the Safari extensions section of iPhone Settings. Allow website access for AI Filter, then open the Plainpage app and sync rules to Safari. See the Support page for detailed steps.
Does Plainpage block ads in every app?
Plainpage works on Safari web pages, not as a universal ad blocker inside other apps. It does not guarantee removal of every ad on every page.
What if ads remain or page content is removed by mistake?
Check that both extensions are enabled, sync the rules, and reload the page. If content is removed by mistake, first disable the extensions for that site in Safari’s website menu. See the Support page for reporting options and precautions.
